Caitlin Clark's New Taylor Swift-Inspired Nike Shoes: A Hit With Fans and Swift Alike
Iowa native and Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark has unveiled her latest signature shoe, the Nike Caitlin 1 “Friendship Bracelet” edition, and she says it beats even her earlier Taylor Swift-themed kicks. The shoes, which feature colorful charms and laces inspired by the Eras Tour tradition of exchanging friendship bracelets, were revealed ahead of the Fever's game against the Connecticut Sun on August 28.
“These are probably some of the ones that I was most excited about,” Clark told reporters, as captured in a clip posted by James Boyd of The Athletic. “Obviously, I had the Kobe version, but I feel like these are even better. It'll come with some charms and everybody can kind of make their own, obviously. I have CC 22 on mine and some other charms, but just pretty fun.”
Clark, a self-proclaimed Swiftie, has long blended her love for the pop superstar with her basketball career. Back in June, she debuted a Nike Kobe 6 Protro PE colorway named “Eras Tour,” featuring a pink, yellow, and green gradient. That was her final Kobe Bryant PE before the Caitlin 1 line took center stage.
What Makes the Friendship Bracelet Shoes Special?
The new Caitlin 1 “Friendship Bracelet” shoes stand out with an off-white base, subtle color undertones, and a gold Nike swoosh. Clark's signature blue logo sits on the tongue. The most striking feature is the thick, fuzzy laces woven with small charms. On Clark's own pair, the left shoe sports a “CC” charm, while the right features her jersey number, “22.”
The design draws directly from the Eras Tour tradition where fans exchange bracelets as a sign of community. Clark emphasized how much those bracelets mean to her interactions with fans.
“The amount of friendship bracelets that I receive when I'm signing autographs like that's always what people want to make for me,” she said. “I feel like this is almost something that I can kind of give back to the fans in a way. Like you can connect with me like I'm making my own shoes on the court, and you can kind of take this shoe and like make it your own in your own way. I think it'll be probably popular amongst young girls, but at the same time, like I hope boys want to wear it the same exact way.”
What Does Taylor Swift Think of the Shoes?
Given Clark's friendship with Swift, which includes attending a Kansas City Chiefs playoff game with her in January 2025, reporters naturally asked what Swift thought of the sneakers. Clark's answer was short and sweet.
“Taylor likes them,” she said, drawing cheers from the room. Clark also expressed confidence the shoes would have broad appeal. “I think it's pretty cool. I've already heard from a lot of people that really want them. So I feel like this will probably be a hot commodity. I assume,” she added.
Clark's Long Partnership with Nike
The Friendship Bracelet shoes are the latest chapter in Clark's lucrative partnership with Nike, which began during her standout career at the University of Iowa. In 2024, her rookie WNBA season, she signed an eight-year, $28 million deal with the brand.
Clark's ability to connect with fans through creative designs continues to set her apart, both on and off the court. For Iowans who followed her from her high school days in Des Moines to her record-breaking college career, it's another example of how she's making her mark on the national stage.
“I feel like this will probably be a hot commodity,” Clark said. Given her track record, it's hard to argue.
