Cowboys Roster Map: Where America's Team Hails From
The Dallas Cowboys have built their 90-man roster by looking far and wide, but the results show a heavy dose of homegrown talent. As teams prepare for the season, the geographic breakdown of America's Team proves that Texas is still the heartbeat of the franchise.
Of the 90 players currently on the roster, 88 were born in the United States. Those American players hail from 29 different states, with two international players rounding out the squad. Corey Ballentine was born in Jamaica, and Adedayo Odeleye was born in Nigeria.
Texas Leads the Pack
It is no surprise that the Lone Star State dominates the roster. Thirteen players were born in Texas, making it the top producer of talent for the Cowboys by a wide margin. The team looked to local talent to fill out its undrafted free agent class, bringing in players who know exactly what it means to wear the star.
Five of those Texas natives come straight from the Dallas-Fort Worth Metro area. Tyler Smith and Jaden Smith both call Fort Worth home. Tommy Dunn and Jordan Hudson hail from Garland, and Josh Butler comes from Mesquite. Keeping local talent close to home has always been a priority for the franchise.
Florida and California Follow
Nationally, the usual suspects follow Texas. Florida contributed eight players to the roster, while California added seven. A recent study of all 1,730 players on 2025 opening day rosters showed that Texas, Florida, and California are the top three talent producers for the entire NFL. The Cowboys roster simply mirrors that league-wide trend.
Alabama and Louisiana also show up strong for Dallas. Three players were born in Alabama, and three more call Louisiana home, including star quarterback Dak Prescott, who was born in Sulphur.
What About Iowa?
While the current 90-man roster does not feature any Iowa natives, the surrounding Midwest is still well represented. Missouri has two players, including standout center Cooper Beebe from Kansas City. Illinois also contributed three players, Minnesota added two, and Wisconsin and South Dakota each pitched in one.
Iowa has a strong football tradition and regularly sends talent to the NFL, even if none landed on the Cowboys' current roster. Hawkeye State fans will still have plenty of reasons to watch, especially as the team prepares for a competitive season.
Multi-Player Cities Outside DFW
Outside of the Dallas-Fort Worth area, only four cities produced multiple Cowboys players. Houston leads this group with three players: running back Jaydon Blue, defensive tackle Otito Ogbonnia, and safety Zion Childress.
The other multi-player cities include Monroe, Louisiana, with wide receiver KaVontae Turpin and wide receiver Camden Brown. Nashville, Tennessee, produced tight end Princeton Fant and linebacker Langston Patterson. Tampa, Florida, also added two players in running back Malik Davis and tight end Michael Trigg.
A Nationally Represented Team
The Cowboys roster stretches across the map, touching 29 states and two countries. Eleven of those states have exactly one player representing their home soil on the roster.
Here is a look at the top 10 states producing the most players for the Cowboys:
- Texas: 13 players
- Florida: 8 players
- California: 7 players
- Alabama: 3 players
- Louisiana: 3 players
- Illinois: 3 players
- Georgia: 3 players
- North Carolina: 3 players
- New York: 3 players
- Connecticut: 3 players
The Cowboys will continue to shape their roster as the summer progresses, but the foundation is set. With a heavy reliance on Texas talent and strong representation from coast to coast, America's Team truly lives up to its name.
