ESPN's College GameDay Snubs Iowa-Michigan, Stays in SEC for Week 4
ESPN's College GameDay is heading back to the SEC for the fourth time in five weeks, leaving Iowa fans wondering why the network keeps ignoring the Big Ten's marquee matchups. The show will broadcast from Knoxville on September 26 for the Texas-Tennessee showdown, continuing a pattern that has frustrated college football fans across the country.
GameDay's SEC-heavy schedule draws criticism
College GameDay has visited SEC campuses in four of the first five weeks of the 2026 season. The show opened in Baton Rouge for LSU's opener against Clemson, traveled to Austin for Texas-Ohio State, and featured Ole Miss in Oxford during Week 3.
Fans have taken notice, and they are not happy about the lack of variety.
GameDay is for the SEC at this point; no other conference will get the big stage at this point, one fan posted.

Iowa-Michigan overlooked despite high stakes
The Week 4 slate includes a massive Big Ten matchup between undefeated Iowa and Michigan in Ann Arbor. The Hawkeyes enter the game at 3-0 and could make a strong case for hosting GameDay in Week 5 if they beat the Wolverines.
Instead, ESPN chose to feature Texas for the second time this season. The Longhorns were already the subject of the Week 2 broadcast in Austin.
Texas again... man, this network has to do better, one fan said.
Another fan pointed to the Oregon-USC matchup as a missed opportunity, noting the game marks the first Big Ten meeting between the two former Pac-12 rivals.
Oregon-USC rivalry game passed over
Oregon and USC have a long history as Pac-12 powerhouses, but this weekend's game in Los Angeles is their first as Big Ten members. The Ducks are coming off an 84-0 blowout of Portland State, while USC sits at 4-0 after a narrow 42-35 win over Rutgers.
Despite the compelling storyline, GameDay stayed in SEC territory.
Oregon vs USC was right there. Boring, one fan commented.
Iowa could host GameDay in Week 5
There is good news for Hawkeye fans. ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit has already teased Iowa City as a top contender for the Week 5 broadcast.
If Iowa beats Michigan this weekend, the Hawkeyes would host Ohio State in a battle of undefeated teams at Kinnick Stadium. That matchup would be difficult for ESPN to ignore, even with the network's apparent SEC bias.
Ohio State at Iowa looks likely to be the host of College GameDay, Herbstreit said on The Pat McAfee Show.
Herbstreit had earlier suggested North Carolina could draw GameDay if Bill Belichick's team beat Clemson in Week 3. That did not happen, clearing the path for Iowa City.
What's next for Iowa football?
The Hawkeyes control their own destiny. A win over Michigan would set up a massive top-five showdown with Ohio State in front of a primetime Kinnick Stadium crowd.
Iowa fans know what that atmosphere looks like. The network may finally have no choice but to bring the show to the heartland.
For now, Iowa will focus on the task at hand: beating Michigan on the road and proving they belong in the national conversation.
