Five-Star Battie Schedules Second Official Visit to Nebraska
By John Damon
Five-star forward Dawson Battie, the No. 13 overall prospect in the 2027 recruiting class, will take his second official visit to Nebraska on the weekend of Oct. 9. The Huskers remain a top contender for the Dallas native amid heavy competition from programs like Texas, Kentucky, and SMU. Landing Battie would give Nebraska the highest-ranked recruit in program history.
Where Do the Huskers Stand With Dawson Battie?
Nebraska was one of the first Power Conference programs to offer Battie a scholarship back in October 2024. That early commitment to the St. Mark's High School standout has kept the Huskers in the race. Battie first visited the Lincoln campus in August 2025. He returned in February to watch Nebraska play then-No. 9 Illinois.
Even though the Huskers lost that game by nine points, the visit left a strong impression. The Huskers have remained within striking distance ever since. A strong start to the 2026-27 season against Providence and Boise State could further strengthen Nebraska's pitch before the early signing period in November.
What Are Battie's Other Top School Choices?
Battie holds 23 Division I offers. His top group includes Nebraska, SMU, Texas, Kentucky, and Kansas. He has visited SMU three times, Nebraska twice, and both Texas and Kentucky once. Before making his college decision, Battie has official visits scheduled this fall to Texas A&M, Houston, SMU, and Virginia.
While NIL money will inevitably play a role in his final choice, Battie's recruitment appears centered around relationships, player development, and overall fit. If the Huskers can check those boxes, they will have a real shot at signing him. Battie has the talent to start as a true freshman wherever he lands.
Nebraska's 2027 Recruiting Class Takes Shape
Nebraska currently holds one commitment for 2027 from Ty Schlagel. Schlagel, a four-star recruit ranked No. 107 nationally, picked the Huskers over Big Ten rivals Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. Schlagel committed in October 2025 after building a strong relationship with head coach Fred Hoiberg and his staff.
For Iowa fans tracking regional recruiting battles, it is worth noting that several other 2027 prospects with ties to the Midwest have already committed elsewhere. Dooney Johnson, London Dada, and Donovan Davis are off the board to schools like Iowa State and Creighton. The Huskers are expected to add one or two more high school prospects to their class, making Battie their biggest remaining target.
Recent changes to college basketball also impact Nebraska's strategy. With the 5-for-5 eligibility rules passing earlier this week, the Huskers have several players on their current roster who gained an additional year. This gives Hoiberg more flexibility as he manages the roster and pursues top-tier talent like Battie.
