Iowa Baseball Star Loses Ole Miss Scholarship Amid Brain Tumor Battle, Hawkeyes Step In
An Iowa high school baseball standout who spent four years battling a cancerous brain tumor has lost his scholarship to the University of Mississippi just weeks before he was set to enroll. But the University of Iowa quickly stepped up to offer him a new opportunity.
Brett Harris, a native of Epworth, Iowa, and a graduate of Western Dubuque High School, received a phone call from Ole Miss baseball coach Mike Bianco on June 28. Days after graduating, and while still undergoing treatment for a brain tumor diagnosed during his freshman year, Harris learned his scholarship had been pulled.
“When he got on the call, the first thing he said was, ‘We have some bad news,’” Harris told USA
