Iowa Joins 24 States Protecting Kids From Adult Sites
Parents know the internet can be a dangerous place for kids. While children are often tech savvy, they shouldn't be able to easily stumble onto explicit adult websites. To protect minors, a wave of states has passed age-verification laws. Now, Iowa is stepping up to join the fight. Governor Kim Reynolds recently signed a new age-verification bill that takes effect on July 1, 2026.
Iowa Takes a Stand for Parental Rights
When the law goes into effect, Iowa will become the 25th state to require adult sites to verify that visitors are adults. The parent company of Pornhub, Aylo, has responded by blocking access in states with these laws. West Virginia just lost access on June 12 under a similar bill signed by Republican Governor Patrick Morrisey. Aylo also operates YouPorn and Redtube, which are similarly blocked in states that take action.
The push to protect children online has been largely led by Republican lawmakers who believe in parental rights and basic decency. Missouri Attorney General Hanaway imposed an age-verification rule, and lawmakers there are now working to make it permanent law.
