Ottumwa Little League 10s Remain Perfect in District Play
Ottumwa's 10-year-old Little League baseball team improved to 5-0 in Iowa's seventh district tournament play on Wednesday, overcoming an early deficit to defeat Monroe County 7-2. The victory keeps Ottumwa perfect in the postseason as they chase the city's first Little League state championship since 1984.
How Did Ottumwa Complete the Comeback?
Monroe County presented the toughest challenge Ottumwa has faced so far. Pitcher Levi Kurimski struck out four batters in the first two innings, and Jayse Beaumont drove a bases-loaded single into center field to give Monroe County a 2-0 lead in the second inning.
Ottumwa refused to fold. Shortstop Drew Goldsmith beat out an infield single to spark the rally. Isaac Thompson followed with a bunt hit, setting the stage for Marshall LaPoint. LaPoint drove a deep shot to left field, bringing two runs home to tie the game.
