Recount Confirms Miller-Meeks Win, Democrats Threaten Challenge
Iowa officials have certified Republican Mariannette Miller-Meeks as the winner of the state's 2nd Congressional District after a dramatic recount. The final margin is just six votes out of nearly 400,000 cast, making it one of the closest House races in American history. But Democrat Rita Hart is signaling she will not accept the results, potentially dragging the contest into the courts or even the U.S. House of Representatives.
Six-Vote Margin Triggers Recount
The Iowa Board of Canvass certified Miller-Meeks' victory on Monday, confirming a win of 0.002 percentage points. The recount dramatically narrowed the original 47-vote gap but did not change the outcome. For Miller-Meeks, an ophthalmologist and state senator making her fourth run for the seat, the certification marks a hard-fought victory after three previous losses to former Rep. Dave Loebsack.
