Andrew Sears Dominates in Triple-A Debut Stretch

Left-hander Andrew Sears continues to turn heads with the Toledo Mud Hens. The 23-year-old threw five scoreless, hitless innings with seven strikeouts and two walks in Toledo's 9-2 victory over Iowa, following up his impressive Triple-A debut last week.

Through his first two outings with Toledo, Sears has compiled 9 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out 14 batters. His performance raises an intriguing question for the Tigers: could he become a bullpen option in Detroit before the season ends?

Sears has spent most of his professional career as a starter, but his ability to miss bats could make him a valuable left-handed weapon out of the bullpen. The main hurdle is roster space, as Sears is not currently on Detroit's 40-man roster.

Hayden Minton also made his Triple-A debut Tuesday, following Sears with a scoreless inning that included two strikeouts. The 2023 ninth-round draft pick had posted a 3.15 ERA with 84 strikeouts over 80 innings before reaching Toledo.

Zyhir Hope Delivers Biggest Night Since Joining Tigers

Zyhir Hope, the centerpiece of the Tarik Skubal trade with the Dodgers, had arguably his best offensive performance since joining the organization. The 21-year-old went 4-for-5 with a home run, double, two runs scored, and three RBIs in Erie's 6-5 loss to New Hampshire.

Hope's two-run homer in the third inning gave Erie an early lead, and he later delivered a game-tying single in the ninth. The home run was his 25th overall this season and second since joining Erie.

While one game doesn't settle any debate about the Skubal trade, it offers a glimpse of the offensive ceiling that made Hope such an important part of the return.

Bryce Rainer Extends Home Run Streak to Four Games

Bryce Rainer continues to make a case for being one of baseball's top prospects. The 2024 first-round pick homered in his fourth consecutive game Tuesday, crushing a solo shot to dead center in the first inning against South Bend.

Brett Callahan Hits First Major League Home Run

Brett Callahan provided the lone bright spot, hitting his first major-league home run in the fifth inning. The 392-foot blast off a 97.8 mph fastball temporarily gave Detroit a 1-0 lead.
