Trump Touts US Energy Dominance, Recalls $1.85 Gas in Iowa
President Donald Trump is doubling down on American energy independence. While speaking with reporters on Air Force One en route to Chippewa Falls, Trump highlighted the nation's vast energy resources and warned Iran that it is in no position to develop a nuclear weapon. For Iowa drivers, his remarks carried a familiar promise of relief at the pump.
US Holds Unmatched Energy Reserves
Trump told the press that the United States has more oil, gas, and coal than any other country on the planet. He pointed to recent developments in Venezuela as a major boost to American energy interests and global supply.
“The beautiful thing from our standpoint is we have more oil and gas and coal and everything else than any other country on the planet,” Trump said. “And then when you add Venezuela to it, we have probably 64 percent of that type of energy.”
He noted that relations with Venezuela are improving. According to the president, major oil companies are already moving into the country and will extract millions of barrels of oil. When asked if American oil companies are doing enough to boost output, Trump remained confident. He simply stated that the US has everything it needs.
Standing Firm Against Iran's Nuclear Ambitions
The president also addressed the ongoing tensions with Iran. He made it clear that Tehran will not be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon, emphasizing the strength of the American position.
“They're not going to have a nuclear weapon. And they're in no position to have a nuclear weapon,” Trump stated.
His comments come amid fragile peace efforts following the conflict that began when the US and Israel launched attacks on Iran on February 28. A ceasefire was brokered on April 8. Since then, the two nations have communicated through Pakistan. The first direct talks in April failed to reach a deal, but Trump insists the US is having great success in keeping the situation contained.
Relief at the Pump for Iowans
Global energy markets have been on edge since the conflict in West Asia began. Despite predictions of oil hitting $300 a barrel, Trump said prices are currently sitting around $96 to $97 a barrel. He credited US naval assistance for keeping oil flowing through the Strait and preventing a massive price spike.
“A lot of oil is coming into our country and a lot of oil is coming into the world that people don't even know about,” Trump explained. “And that's why it's at 97 dollars a barrel instead of 300 dollars a barrel.”
For Iowans feeling the pinch at the pump, Trump offered a reminder of how good things can get when American energy is unleashed. He pointed to his recent visit to the Hawkeye State as proof of what strong leadership and domestic production can deliver.
“I was in Iowa and for a gallon of gasoline it was at 1.85. So that was three and a half months ago,” Trump recalled.
He predicted that once the situation in West Asia is fully resolved, oil prices will drop even further. Americans could soon see prices lower than they were before the conflict started, putting more money back into the pockets of hardworking Iowa families.
