Iowa high school baseball teams delivered impressive performances during the week of June 14-20, with several local athletes posting standout numbers. How did area baseball teams perform last week?
Roland-Story dominated the week, going 5-0 and claiming the top spot in the Heart of Iowa Conference. The Norsemen now hold an impressive 24-1 overall record.
Ames went 3-3 over the week. The Little Cyclones swept Des Moines Lincoln and split a doubleheader with Southeast Polk.
Ballard, ranked No. 9 in Class 3A, secured two strong wins. The Bombers took down Gilbert by a 12-2 score and shut out Nevada 7-0.
Gilbert bounced back to defeat Nevada 6-5, while Nevada snapped a four-game losing streak with a 5-4 win over Greene County on June 19.
Collins-Maxwell went 2-2 with victories over Clarksville and Baxter. Colo-NESCO finished the week on a high note, beating Dunkerton 7-4 and BCLUW 10-4.

Erik Anderson, Ames
Anderson delivered an explosive offensive performance during the Ames baseball team's 13-3 victory over Southeast Polk on June 19. He went 4-for-4 with a double and drove in four runs to secure the win for the Little Cyclones.
Bowen Benedict, Ballard
Benedict dominated on the mound and at the plate during 3A No. 9 Ballard's 12-2 victory over Gilbert on June 17. As the winning pitcher, he gave up one earned run on three hits with seven strikeouts and four walks in six innings. He also went 1-for-2 at the plate with a sacrifice and two RBIs.
Ean Eldred, Gilbert
Eldred served as Gilbert's big run producer during the Tigers' 6-5 victory over Nevada on June 18. He went 2-for-3 with a double and a sacrifice hit, scoring one run and driving in four for the game.
Hunter Purvis, Colo-NESCO
Purvis pitched the Colo-NESCO baseball team to a 7-4 victory over Dunkerton on June 17. He gave up four unearned runs on seven hits with 10 strikeouts and just one walk in 6 1/3 innings. He also went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run.
