Waukee Northwest Sophomore Named Iowa's Gatorade Softball Player of the Year
Sophia Schlader, a standout right-handed pitcher at Waukee Northwest High School, has been named the 2025-26 Gatorade Softball Player of the Year for the state of Iowa. The sophomore earned the state's top high school softball honor, joining 49 other winners from across the country recognized for athletic excellence, academic achievement, and community leadership.
Iowa's Rising Star in the Circle
Schlader emerged as one of Iowa's most dominant forces in the pitcher's circle during her sophomore campaign. The Gatorade award recognizes not just on-field performance, but also classroom success and a commitment to serving others, values that resonate deeply with communities across the Hawkeye State.
For families in Waukee and across central Iowa, Schlader's recognition highlights the strength of the state's youth softball programs and the dedication of young athletes who balance demanding practice schedules with academic responsibilities and community involvement.
National Honor Goes to Florida's Caroline Stanton
While Schlader represents Iowa's best, the national Gatorade Player of the Year title went to Florida freshman Caroline Stanton. Stanton, a Georgia native who enrolled early at the University of Florida, was selected from the 50 state winners as the top high school softball player in the country.
Stanton led Buford High School to a 6A State Championship in Georgia last fall, her third career state title. She was the top-ranked recruit in her class according to Softball America and became the fourth Florida Gator to claim the national honor, following Ava Brown in 2023 and Keagan Rothrock in 2022.
