During a June 24 loss to the Phoenix Mercury, Connecticut Sun forward Alyssa Thomas shoved her fist into Clark's throat. Referees did not call a foul during the game. The WNBA later upgraded the incident to a Flagrant-2 penalty, suspending Thomas for one game and fining her $1,000.
