Badgers Push Hard For 2027 Talent, Challenging Iowa
The battle for the Big Ten West never really stops. While the Iowa Hawkeyes focus on their own recruiting trail, the Wisconsin Badgers are making a serious push to solidify their 2027 class. Madison is hosting another round of key official visits this weekend, and the moves they make could directly impact the competitive landscape Iowa faces in the coming years.
Badgers Build Early Momentum
Wisconsin already holds 17 commitments for 2027. Last weekend was a massive win for the program, as they landed four of their six uncommitted visitors. The Badgers secured big commitments from four-star wide receiver Jai Jones and four-star cornerback Mekhi Williams. They also added three-star linebacker Nathan Jones and three-star cornerback Royalton Allen to the fold.
With those wins in the rearview mirror, Wisconsin is looking to fill a few remaining gaps. They want to add another wide receiver or two, another safety, potentially another offensive lineman, and at least one more edge rusher or defensive lineman.
The Iowa Connection On The Defensive Line
Here is where it gets interesting for Hawkeye fans. Wisconsin is looking to add another edge rusher, and one of their top targets is three-star Texas Tech commit Brody Pfannenstiel. The Hawkeyes are also heavily in the mix, having extended an offer to the talented pass rusher back in January.
Pfannenstiel is visiting Madison this weekend before heading to Texas Tech next weekend. The Red Raiders already boast a formidable defensive line class, so Wisconsin is hoping to entice Pfannenstiel to flip his commitment. If the Badgers pull it off, it is a win for them and a missed opportunity for Iowa on the defensive front.
Loading Up At Wide Receiver
Wisconsin is prioritizing the passing game this weekend. They are hosting three-star Montana native Steele Harris, a 6'3, 190-pound target who fits perfectly on the boundary. The Badgers are battling Cal for his commitment, and they hope to close the deal before he takes his next visit.
The Badgers also moved up the visit timeline for composite four-star Chuck Alexander. He is currently committed to Louisville, but Wisconsin is pushing hard to flip the Ohio native. Alexander visited Louisville last weekend, making this weekend's trip to Madison a critical juncture in his recruitment.
Defensive Additions And Trench Battles
Beyond the edge rushers, Wisconsin is looking at a bigger defensive piece in three-star Yahzeen Zion. Standing at 6'4 and 265 pounds, Zion has the size to play on the defensive line. He holds significant interest from SEC schools, so getting him on campus is a notable win for the Badgers' staff.
In the secondary, Wisconsin is hosting three-star Texas safety James Roberson. The Badgers already have two safeties committed, but they want Roberson to round out the group. He is also considering Mississippi State and TCU.
Finally, the Badgers are looking to add a luxury piece on the offensive line. They already hold four commitments up front, but four-star Alijah Shaw is visiting this weekend. Shaw stands at a massive 6'8 and 275 pounds. He visited Arkansas last weekend, and the Razorbacks appear to be the top competition for his signature.
Keeping An Eye On The Competition
For Iowa fans, keeping a close watch on the competition is just part of the game. Wisconsin is making aggressive, strategic moves to close out their 2027 class. The fight for Big Ten supremacy runs right through these weekend visits, and the Hawkeyes will need to match that energy to keep pace in the conference race.
