Ernst: Fauci Must Answer for COVID Lab Leak Lies at Senate Hearing

Iowa Senator Joni Ernst says Dr. Anthony Fauci has intentionally misled Americans about the origins of COVID-19 and must face consequences. As Fauci prepares to testify before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee on Wednesday, Ernst told Newsmax she expects a fiery hearing but doubts the former White House chief medical adviser will offer real answers.
“We know now that Dr. Fauci did intentionally mislead the American people,” Ernst said. “There are a couple of felonies that we will want to do a deep dive into as well. The fact that he destroyed records and he has lied to Congress again, those are felonies.”
What Did Fauci Know About the Lab Leak Theory?
Senator Rand Paul, a Kentucky Republican, subpoenaed Fauci to testify as part of a long-running investigation into his handling of the pandemic. Paul released over 1,000 pages from Fauci’s personal diaries that allegedly show a gap between his private beliefs and public statements.
According to Ernst, Fauci privately believed the virus likely originated from a laboratory in Wuhan, China, but publicly promoted the theory that it emerged from a wet market.
“While he thought it was a lab leak, he intentionally misled the American people and many others around the world to believe that it came from a wet market,” Ernst said. “I would love to hear the truth today, but unfortunately, as I said, I think we will actually hear very little from Dr. Fauci.”
