Iowa Recruit Caroline Wendlinger Earns Post-Tribune All-Area Honors
Future University of Iowa Hawkeye Caroline Wendlinger earned second team All-Area honors from the Post-Tribune after a standout junior season at Munster High School. Wendlinger, a versatile utility player, batted .402 with five home runs, 27 RBIs and 22 runs scored, securing her spot on one of Indiana's most prestigious high school softball recognition lists.

Wendlinger proved her value as a multi-position threat during the 2026 season. Her ability to play multiple positions while maintaining strong offensive production made her an attractive recruit for the University of Iowa program. She earned all-conference and all-state third team recognition, adding to a growing list of accomplishments before she arrives in Iowa City.
The Munster standout joins a Hawkeyes program that continues to recruit talent from across the Midwest. Her power at the plate and defensive flexibility should give Iowa coaches options as they build their roster for the future.
Lake Central dominates All-Area first team selections
Class 4A state champion Lake Central placed seven players on the All-Area teams, including four first team selections. The Indians' dominance reflected a season where they captured the state's highest classification title.
Shortstop Lexi Iwema, an Indiana recruit, led the charge by batting .475 with 17 home runs, 58 RBIs, 53 runs scored and 11 stolen bases. She earned all-conference, all-state first team and North All-Star honors.
Pitcher Maddie Such, a Kentucky recruit, went 17-1 with a 0.95 ERA and 167 strikeouts in 103 1/3 innings. She also contributed at the plate, batting .474 with seven homers and 40 RBIs.
Third baseman Tegan Tripp, a Virginia Tech recruit, posted a .537 batting average with 12 home runs, 52 RBIs and 55 runs scored. Catcher Madi Wainwright, an Indiana recruit, batted .528 with 11 homers and 31 RBIs.
Crown Point and Hanover Central represent strong
Crown Point placed five players across the All-Area teams, including two first team selections. Pitcher Paige Liezert went 16-2 with a 0.86 ERA and 226 strikeouts in 122 1/3 innings, earning conference MVP, all-state first team, North All-Star and Miss Softball finalist recognition. The Miami of Ohio recruit was one of the most dominant arms in the region.
Third baseman Ashlyn Kita, a DePaul recruit, batted .505 with eight homers and 39 RBIs to join Liezert on the first team.
Class 3A state champion Hanover Central landed four players on the All-Area list. Sophomore pitcher Jillian DeYoung went 21-4 with a 1.25 ERA and 264 strikeouts in 151 innings while batting .349 with three homers and 33 RBIs. Catcher Sienna Stilley, a Jacksonville State recruit, batted .452 with 13 home runs and 37 RBIs.
Other standout performers from the first team
Munster junior Ally Compton, an Indiana recruit, earned first team honors as a third baseman and pitcher. She batted .424 with 12 homers and 36 RBIs while going 14-6 with a 1.82 ERA and 222 strikeouts in the circle.
Andrean sophomore Ashlyn Hite led all first team hitters with a .510 batting average, adding 11 home runs and 51 RBIs for the Class 2A semistate finalist.
Second team features promising underclassmen
Beyond Wendlinger, the second team included several underclassmen with impressive credentials. Griffith freshman Camryn Young posted the highest batting average of any All-Area selection at .557, adding six homers, 30 RBIs and 20 stolen bases. She also went 11-3 as a pitcher with a 1.96 ERA and 136 strikeouts.
Boone Grove junior Jordyn Botma, an Oakland recruit, went 14-5 with a 2.15 ERA and 154 strikeouts while batting .506 at the plate. Illiana Christian sophomore Lauren Mish batted .532 with four homers and 39 RBIs.
Andrean senior Maddi McCoy batted .514 with 48 runs scored and 26 stolen bases. Crown Point senior Scarlette Tegtman batted .466 with 39 runs scored and 23 stolen bases. Valparaiso junior Delilah Kincaid, a Bowling Green State recruit, batted .450 with six homers and 34 RBIs.
Crown Point junior Evi Cuevas and Lowell senior Preslee Hill, an Ursuline recruit, rounded out the second team selections. Lake Central senior MaKayla Van Vossen, a DePaul recruit, batted .409 with six homers and 51 runs scored.
Who were the Class 4A and 3A state champions?
Lake Central won the Indiana Class 4A state championship, finishing the season with a dominant roster that produced seven All-Area selections. Hanover Central captured the Class 3A state title, led by sophomore pitcher Jillian DeYoung and senior catcher Sienna Stilley.
Which All-Area players are heading to college programs?
Fourteen of the 21 All-Area first and second team selections have committed to Division I college programs. Indiana, DePaul, Kentucky, Virginia Tech, Miami of Ohio, Jacksonville State, Oakland, Bowling Green State and Ursuline are among the schools landing this talent. Wendlinger stands as the lone University of Iowa commit on the list.
