Two 13-year-old boys from Fruitland, Iowa, are being recognized as local heroes after rescuing an elderly woman who had been stranded injured in her yard for more than 16 hours. Gunner Skidmore and Kohen Chick received a special award from Muscatine County emergency officials for their quick thinking and compassion on June 9.
How Did Gunner Skidmore and Kohen Chick Find the Injured Woman?
The morning of June 9 started like any other summer day for Gunner Skidmore. He was eating a Pop-Tart and scrolling through social media when his best friend, Kohen Chick, asked if he wanted to ride bikes. The two 13-year-olds headed out to a local trail that runs by some houses in their small Muscatine County town. That bike ride turned into a lifesaving mission.
Skidmore told KWQC that Chick spotted someone first.
