Nebraska's New Uniforms Spark Debate, Iowa Fans Pounce
Nebraska football unveiled an updated uniform design on Saturday, and the reaction was swift and divided. The new look features a changed number font, swapped shoulder numbers and stripes, and pants with dual lines running partway up from the bottom. The helmet remains unchanged. While Husker fans argued over tradition versus modern style, Iowa fans seized the moment to remind their rivals of one simple fact. The wins just are not there anymore.
What Changed in Nebraska's Uniform Update?
According to a release from Nebraska Athletics, the uniforms feature updates inspired by classic Husker football design elements. Adidas initiated the idea for a modernized look two years ago. The release also noted that recruiting has evolved over the years to include how uniforms look and are utilized from year to year.
Adidas has been the primary apparel partner of Nebraska Athletics since 1995. The company has produced some exciting alternates as well as some duds. As for the regular uniform, small changes have appeared from time to time, but the 2002 uniform disaster still lingers for many fans.
Why Are Traditional Husker Fans Upset?
Social media reactions split into three clear camps. Some fans praised the changes, while others slammed them as unnecessary and ugly. A third group simply begged for wins.
Those against the redesign did not hold back.
