CLAAS FarmPoint Opens New Location, Strengthening Iowa Supply Chain for Farmers
A new CLAAS FarmPoint dealership in Jamestown, North Dakota, is set to deliver faster parts and service to farmers, with a direct pipeline to a major warehouse in Le Mars, Iowa. The move underscores the company's commitment to supporting agricultural operations across the region, particularly for Iowa farmers who rely on quick turnaround times for equipment repairs.
The new location, which celebrated its grand opening on July 2, replaces a temporary facility in Buffalo, North Dakota. It features a 15,200-square-foot building with expanded office space and a large shop area, along with nine full-time employees. Complex manager Opie Kelley said the upgrade allows for overnight delivery of parts from the Le Mars warehouse and even direct shipment from Germany when needed.
Why This Matters for Iowa Farmers
Iowa farmers, who depend on reliable equipment during planting and harvest seasons, stand to benefit from the improved supply chain. The Le Mars warehouse serves as a central hub for parts distribution across the region. Kelley emphasized that the new location's larger parts inventory — valued at $700,000 more than the Buffalo site — ensures technicians have what they need to minimize downtime.
“We have about $700,000 more in parts than we did in Buffalo,” Kelley said. “We can overnight parts from Germany if we need to. We do have direct ship capabilities, so if we have a farmer down, we can direct ship from Germany straight to the customer's house.”
Expanded Service Capabilities
The Jamestown location now employs six technicians, up from just two at the Buffalo site, with plans to add two more. Technicians are based out of their homes and travel to farmers' locations for repairs, carrying parts in their vehicles. If a technician is on another call, a CLAAS employee delivers parts directly to the next farm, saving valuable time.
“By the time the technician gets there, the parts are already at the farmer's location,” Kelley said. “It saves time from having to run back and forth.”
CLAAS also does not charge service call fees or mileage for travel to farms, a move that aligns with conservative principles of supporting hardworking farmers and reducing unnecessary government-like overhead.
Strategic Location on Highway Bypass
The new site, located at 6463 U.S. Highway 52/281 Bypass, offers better visibility and accessibility than the previously planned location at JMS Aviation Park. The 9.5-acre property is a significant upgrade from the 5 acres originally considered.
“We are on the bypass with numerous farmers going up and down this road every day, and it's a better accessible point here for us than it is at the aviation part of town,” Kelley said.
Technology to Boost Efficiency
CLAAS machinery can now be connected to CLAAS Connect, a digital platform that monitors equipment in real time. If a machine throws a code or warning, a call center alerts the farmer and the dealership simultaneously, allowing technicians to prepare before arriving on site.
“If their machine is in the field and throws a code or a trouble warning or anything, that call center can actually call the customer and say, 'Hey, this is what's going on with your machine,'” Kelley explained. “Then we'll know about it the same time they do. Then we can almost be prepared.”
