Congress warns WNBA to protect Caitlin Clark or face federal civil rights probe
The Republican Study Committee, the largest caucus on Capitol Hill, has sent a letter to WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert warning that failure to protect Caitlin Clark from dangerous on-court treatment could trigger a federal civil rights investigation.
Clark, who transformed women's basketball during her time at the University of Iowa and joined the WNBA in 2024, has been the target of repeated physical incidents that go beyond normal competitive play. The letter, obtained by Basketball Network, details multiple attacks including hip checks, a poke to the eye, and a closed fist to the throat by Connecticut Sun forward Alyssa Thomas.
