GOP Supermajorities Override Democratic Governors Across US
Conservative lawmakers across the country are proving that when voters speak, leaders listen. In statehouses from the Midwest to the South, Republican supermajorities are successfully bypassing out-of-touch Democratic governors to deliver on the issues that matter most to families. Here in Iowa, leaders have already stepped up to protect women's sports and parental rights, and the broader national trend shows that conservative values are winning.
The rise of these 29 GOP supermajorities, including seven that emerged after the 2022 midterms, reflects a clear shift in American politics. Voters are rejecting progressive overreach and demanding accountability, limited government, and strong constitutional protections.
North Carolina Overrides Veto to Protect Second Amendment
In North Carolina, Republicans just delivered a massive victory for law-abiding gun owners. For the first time in five years, the GOP-led legislature successfully overrode Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper's veto on a bill repealing an outdated pistol permit requirement.
The previous law forced citizens to get permission from a sheriff before buying a handgun. Supporters of the repeal argued the permitting process was duplicative of the national background check system and placed an unnecessary burden on both sheriffs and citizens. Under the new law, sheriffs will no longer have the authority to deny permits based on background checks that are already handled at the federal level.
